Born in Kharkov of an operatic family, she graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Arts and became a soloist with the Kharkov Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. She became a laureate of the International Glinka Singing Competition, won the International Chamber Singing Competition The Amber Nightingale in Kaliningrad and became a Laureate of the International Moniuzsko Singing Competition in Warsaw. She went on to join the Bolshoi theatre as a principal soloist and continues to sing many important roles with the company, both in Russia and abroad. In addition to her work at the Bolshoi, Alexandra Durseneva appears in many major theatres out of Russia. She also has a vast concert repertory and regularly appears on the concert platform and in recital. She gave her first recital at the Beethoven Hall of the Bolshoi Theatre where she presented SONGS AND DANCES OF DEATH by Mussorgsky as well as vocal cycles by Schumann and Brahms. In 2005 she was awarded the title of Merited Artist of Russia.
