Born in Volgograd. Andrey Antonov graduated from the Astrakhan State Conservatoire where he studied under Professor Beliusenko. He won a series of competitions, including the Amber Nightingale Competition for Chamber Singing, the International Boris Rubashkin Competition, The Russian Glinka Competition, the Maria Foltyn Prize in the International Moniusko Competition, and the Hans Gabor International Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna.

He then joined the Samara Opera Company as principal bass singing all the leading bass roles with them. During a tour of Berlin with the company, he performed with great success Don Estoban in Zemlinsky's DER ZWERG and the Doctor in Busoni"s ARLECCHINO. He appeared as Sarastro in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with the Amadei Opera Theatre, Moscow and took part in Dargomizhsky's THE STONE GUEST with the Lille Philharmonic Orchestra. He performed the title role of Ivan the Terrible in the world premiere of Slonimsky's THE VISIONS OF IVAN THE TERRIBLE under Mstislav Rostropovich and sang the title role of Moses in the world premiere of Kobekin's MOSES with the Moscow State Helikon Opera. In München, Dijon and Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, he sang both Boris Timofeevich and the Old Convict in LADY MACBETH OF MTZENSK, again under Mstislav Rostropovich. He made his debut at the Wexford Festival in Tchaikovsky's ORLEANSKAIA DEVA" appeared in Shostakovich's THE GAMBLERS at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and returned to the Wexford Festival for Flotow's ALESSANDRO STRADELLA. He took part in Shostakovich's THE NOSE and CHEREMUSHKI directed by Francesca Zambello for the Shostakovich Festival at the Fisher Center in the USA and made his debut with Opéra National de Paris in WAR AND PEACE at the Bastille. He took part in a concert performance of Stravinsky's LES NOCES at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, performed Salieri and Leporello in the concert performances of MOZART AND SALIERI and THE STONE GUEST at Avery Fisher Hall. He also sang Mamyrov in Tchaikovsky's ENCHANTRESS at the Moscow Conservatory Hall. He took part in a concert performance of ORLEANSKAIA DEVA as Thibaut at Carnegie Hall. As part of a Culture Programme of the Russian National Exhibition, he appeared in concerts in Delhi. Most recently he toured Israel with the Altera Musica Ensemble.

Besides his operatic commitments, Andrey Antonov appears regularly on the concert platform in recital both in Russia and abroad, with a very broad repertory ncluding Shostakovich's UNTIFORMALIST RAYOK.

He recorded Flotow's ALESSANDRO STRADELLA with the Wexford Festival.
