Born in Taranto, Italian soprano Antonia Cifrone studied singing at the Conservatorio di Matera going on to complete her studies with Renata Tebaldi and Raina Kavaivanska. Winner of the Festival Verdiano Competition held by the Teatro Regio di Parma, she made her debut in the title role of Verdi ALZIRA at Teatro Magnani di Fidenza. This led to both the Mother and the Witch in HÄNSEL UND GRETEL at Teatro Regio di Torino and Gilda RIGOLETTO with Leo Nucci at the Verdi Festival at Roncole Verdi.

Her repertoire also includes contemporary music. She appeared in the role of The Governess THE TURN OF THE SCREW at the Festival Internazionale di Musica Contemporanea di Bolzano before making her role debut as Leonora IL TROVATORE in Sofia, returning to Teatro Magnani di Fidenza for Violetta LA TRAVIATA and her first TOSCA at the Teatro Nacional de L'Avana in Cuba. She then made first of many appearances at the Festival Pucciniano di Torre del Lago as Mimi LA BOHEME under Andrea Licata, returning to sing the title role of MADAMA BUTTERFLY. She added Liù TURANDOT to her repertoire at Teatro Verdi di Carrara alongside Ghena Dimitrova and Lando Bartolini. She repeated the role of MADAMA BUTTERFLY in Bergen and returned once more to Torre del Lago to sing TOSCA.

For the centenary of Mascagni's opera LE MASCHERE she appeared in the role of Rosaura in the production by Lindsay Kemp, firstly at Livorno and then at Pisa, Lucca, Mantova and Ravenna. This production was recorded on CD. She appeared at Torre del Lago once again in the title role of TOSCA, which she repeated in Athens and at Carrara, alongside Nicola Martinucci. Two further role debuts were in the title role of SUOR ANGELICA alongside Fiorenza Cossotto and as Fedelia EDGAR, alongside Katia Ricciarelli both at Teatro Politeama di Lecce.

In Canada, after recitals in Montreal and Toronto she was awarded the title of Ambassador of Italian Opera. In Japan she appeared in a concert in Tokyo dedicated to Mascagni as part of the cultural programme Italy-Japan 2001 and was invited back the following year for a concert to inaugurate the museum dedicated to Giuliano Vangi, She then made her first appearance at the Baltimore Opera Company in the title role of MADAMA BUTTERFLY.

Two more role debuts were as Maddalena ANDREA CHENIER at Teatro Verdi di Carrara and the title role of MANON LESCAUT at Torre del Lago. She was invited by the National Italian American Foundation to Washington to perform Puccini arias and went on to Paris to appear in LES ITALIENS at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées under theatre director Maurizio Scaparro.

In a co-production between Torre del Lago and the International Opera Theatre of Seul she appeared in the title role of MADAMA BUTTERFLY under Roberto Brizzi-Brignoli and returned to Athens to appear as TOSCA for the Greek National Opera.

Most recently she appeared as MADAMA BUTTERFLY for both the Greek National Opera and for the Baltimore Opera Company where she added the role of Antonia LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN to her repertoire, conducted by Christian Badea. She returned to Torre del Lago for Mimi LA BOHEME.

Alongside her many operatic commitments, Antonia Cifrone has a busy concert schedule singing many sacred works including Verdi MESSA DA REQUIEM and the Mozart REQUIEM. She recently appeared at Torre del Lago in the concert entitled LE DONNE DI PUCCINI alongside Placido Domingo, conducted by Alberto Veronese.

Most recently she returned to Torre del Lago for further performances of TOSCA and made her role debut as Mascagni's IRIS in the new production for Comitato Estate Livornese at Teatro Goldoni di Liverno; which she repeated at Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Verdi di Pisa and Teatro Sociale di Rovigo. She also appeared at Vest Norges Opera in Bergen as SUOR ANGELICA and later as MADAMA BUTTERFLY and made her Austrian debut in the title role of ALZIRA for Stadthalle Ternitz. She toured Japan with the Festival Pucciniana and appeared once again at Torre del Lago singing TOSCA. She made another role debut as AIDA in Napoli and repeated the role in Erfurt. She makes her debut in the UK singing Lady Macbeth in Verdi's MACBETH for Opera North.
