Born in Piatra-Neamt, Romania, Cellia Costea studied at the University of Music in Bucharest. She was winner of many international competitions including 1st prize at the XX Concorso Internazionale Valsesia Musica 2004; 1st Prize and Public Prize at the XL International Singing Contest Francisco Vinas, Barcelona 2003; 1st Prize and Public Prize at the 2nd International Singers Competition, Beijing 2002; 1st prize and Public Prize at Debut 2002, Bad Mergentheim, Germany 2002; 2nd Prize at Jaume Aragall, Girona 2002; 1st Prize and Public Prize at Monserrat Caballe, Andora 2001; 1st Prize at Jullian Gayarre, Pamplona Spain 2000; 3rd Prize at Concurso Canto, Bilbao in 2000; 2nd Prize at George Enescu Singing Competition, Bucharest 1999; 2nd Prize at Hans Gabor's Belvedere Contest, Wien, 1999; 3rd Prize at the International Contest Voci Verdiane, Busseto 1998. She made her debut as Desdemona OTELLO in Bucharest and her appearance at Klagenfurt as Contessa LE NOZZE DI FIGARO marked the beginning of her international career.
