Italian born, Maria Laura Martorana studied singing and piano at the Conservatorio dell"Aquila and Biological Science at the same time, qualifying with maximum marks for both disciplines. She went on to study the French coloratura repertory in Paris. She won first prize in the Opera Singing Section in the Primio delle Arti 2009 competition and was also winner of the competition Concorso De Nardis and a finalist in the Toti dal Monte Competition. She has gone on to make a career throughout Europe specializing particularly in baroque opera but also appearing in many works of the standard repertory.
