Canadian baritone Sergei Stilmachenko began his musical education at the University of Kharkov in his native Ukraine. He continued his studies in Canada and United States, moving on to France, where he joined the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra National de Paris in 2001.
He is the winner of many International Competition, including, the Rosa Ponselle International Competition in New York (1994), the Tcheque Music Competition in Toronto (1999), the Joseph Rouleau Competition in Montréal (2000) and the Nightingale Chamber Music Competition in Kaliningrad (2006).
He has gone on to sing in many prestigious international opera houses: including more than 150 times in the Paris National Opera; at Opera Real de Madrid; Opéra Comique in Paris; Montréal Opera; Opera de Toulouse and Strasbourg, Limoges, Vancouver and Kharkov.
Among the renowned conductors with whom he has worked are: Alexander Vedernikov, Kent Nagano, James Conlon, Jiri Belohlavek, Marcello Viotti, Pinchas Steinberg, Bruno Campanella, Jesus Lopez-Cobos. He has also worked with many famous stage directors including: Robert Carsen, Jerome Savary, Colline Serreau, Francesca Zambello and Laurent Pelly.
His roles number more than 50, including: Figaro IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Ford FALSTAFF, the title role of EUGENE ONEGIN, Yeletsky QUEEN OF SPADES, both Marcello and Schaunard LA BOHEME, Tarquinius THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA, Peter HÄNSEL UND GRETEL and Malatesta DON PASQUALE.
Most recently he has sung the title role of EUGENE ONEGIN with the Theater Friburg, Escamillo CARMEN with the Kharkhov Philharmonic Orchestra, and Oreste IPHIGÉNIE EN TAURIDE in a tour of Luxembourg and Armenia.
